What is transrectal ultrasound?

The other name for transrectal ultrasound is endoanal ultrasound. It is commonly used to make differential diagnosis between solitary rectal ulcer syndrome and cancer (and other diseases). With the help of high frequency and waves ultrasound gets a picture of the inner body (which reflects internal organs and structures) without the employment of x-rays. Transrectal ultrasound gets the picture transmission from a probe which is inserted into the rectum.

Transrectal ultrasound is also being used to make differential diagnosis of SRUS and prostate cancer. It shows is mechanism of action through a an equipment called transducer. Following the insertion of the transducer into the rectum, it produces and receives high frequency and sound waves which can not be heard by human ear. Transducer delivers information to a desktop that composes images created by sound waves. Diagnosing solitary rectal ulcer syndrome relies on the evaluation of the thickness of rectal wall and internal anal sphincter.
